Melville, Sask. delivery thief charged by RCMP

Ordering packages online can be stressful, especially when said package doesn’t arrive on time, or doesn’t show up at all.

This was the case in Yorkton, Sask., last week.

On Jan. 26, Yorkton RCMP received a report of a theft. An investigation by RCMP officers determined an employee from a delivery company had been stealing packages that were intended for customers.

Officers from the Melville, Sask. RCMP, along with Yorkton provincial and municipal general investigations executed a search warrant on Jan. 27 in a Melville residence.

Investigators located and seized 40 items, which included electronics and household appliances.

The investigation resulted in police arresting 38-year-old Ricky Novak, a resident of Melville. He has been charged with the following:

  • 1 count theft from mail over $5,000
  • 1 count theft over $5,000
  • 1 count theft under $5,000
  • 1 count possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • 1 count possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Novak is set to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court on Feb. 28.
