Pedestrian, dog dead after east Hamilton hit and run

Hamilton police’s first reported fatality of 2022 in the city is a man and his dog, hit by a vehicle near the east Mountain on Sunday night.

Investigators are categorizing the collision as a ‘fail to remain at the scene’ incident which happened just after 9 p.m. in the area of Lawrence Road near Cochrane Road, west of the Red Hill Valley Parkway and King Street East.

“Upon arrival police located a pedestrian and dog on the ground,” Const. Indy Bharaj told Global News in an email on Monday morning.

“The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.”

In an afternoon update, Bharaj said the dog, 3, succumbed to injuries at the scene.

The male pedestrian, 70, later died shortly after arriving at a hospital.

It’s believed the suspect vehicle is a white Chevrolet and may have “front end” damage.

The HPS Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken on the investigation and are looking for witnesses to the occurrence.
