Charges laid after hazing party near Lanigan, Sask.

LANIGAN, Sask. – RCMP have charged eleven people after a hazing party left high school students with injuries outside of Lanigan, Sask.

On Sept. 7, RCMP received a complaint of an assault that occurred the previous night at an annual freshie party which included the hazing of grade 9 and 10 students by seniors.

Some of the hazing included pouring chocolate syrup, flour and eggs on the victims as well as paddling with hockey sticks.

The paddling caused some severe bruising and one victim sustained muscle damage to his leg and buttocks.

Nine male youths have been charged with a total of 34 charges including assault, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

Due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the names of the youth or any victim involved in this matter will not be released.

Two 18-year-old men from Lanigan have also been charged in relation to the incident.

Brayden Braun is charged with one count of assault with a weapon.

Kyle Ekstrom is charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and three counts of assault with a weapon.

All of the accused are scheduled to make their first appearance in Humboldt provincial court on Oct. 21.
