A street in Toronto’s financial district has been closed to traffic, after broken glass rained down from a skyscraper.
Toronto police tell Global News that wood debris from construction at First Canada Place was blown across the street and smashed three large glass windows on the 27th floor of the Royal Trust Tower.
King Street West has been closed for both cars and pedestrians between Bay and York streets.
No one was injured, and no vehicle was damaged. But, "there is the potential for more glass to fall because of the wind," said Const. Tony Vella of Toronto Police.
Sergio Ramos, who works at Scotia Plaza, was looking at the cordoned off scene from afar, as high winds gust by.
"These buildings are old. You got to keep an eye on them and keep us safe down here on the floor."
He noted the cold weather was likely a blessing.
"If it wasn’t so cold, then there would be a big crowd outside and maybe somebody would get hurt."
