Recent grads killed in early morning crash

CALGARY- Just days before they were set to start on the next chapter of their lives, two high school graduates have been killed in an early-morning crash.

The two 18-year-olds were killed Wednesday morning, when the car they were in went out of control on Elbow Drive at 30 Ave. S.W. The vehicle hit a pole—killing both young men on impact.

The victims have been identified by friends as Spencer Hanson and Josh Wozny, who recently graduated from Western Canada High School. Hanson was visiting Calgary from Paris, and Wozny was getting ready to leave for the University of Victoria.

“It’s tough because we’re all going to university right now, and we’re leaving in two days,” says Anneliese Neweduk. “It was so easily preventable…it’s so unfortunate.”

After hearing the tragic news, friends rushed to the scene and created a makeshift memorial which continues to grow.
