1 dead after crash in Elmira involving motorcycle, horse and buggy

Waterloo Regional Police say a crash involving a horse and buggy and a motorcycle in Elmira on Wednesday has left one person dead.

Police say officers were called to Church Street East between Arthur Street North and Duke Street, shortly before 10 a.m. for reports of the collision.

“Our investigation shows, the horse and buggy was travelling eastbound on Church Street and the motorcycle was travelling westbound on Church Street towards Arthur Street when they crossed paths which resulted in the collision,” Const. Andre Johnson told Global News.

As a result of the collision, a 59-year-old male was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

He said members of the traffic unit are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.

Police say this is the eighth fatal collision of the year in Waterloo Region.
