Police started an investigation into the 42-year-old woman’s death after she didn’t show up for work at a Mississauga pharmaceutical company on Monday, August 30, 2010.
Her remains were discovered by a citizen on Sunday, September 5, 2010 in Caledon, approximately 12 kilometres from Varaschin’s home.
Investigators from both the OPP and Orangeville Police Service have been attempting to identify the suspect or suspects responsible for her death.
Beginning in May 2011, police began collecting voluntary DNA samples from men over the ages of 18 in the surrounding area.
“We are as committed to finding Sonia Varachin’s killer today as we were when it began in 2010. We are determined to bring justice to Sonia and her family” said Detective Inspector Dobbin.
