Prime Minister Mark Carney is welcoming the world’s investors to Toronto on Monday for a high-stakes summit aimed at attracting new investment to Canada.
Hundreds of executives and global asset managers are arriving for Canada’s first-ever investment summit in Toronto to get a look at major projects in various stages of development.
Carney, members of his cabinet and premiers from across the country will be pitching investors on opportunities in multiple sectors, including energy, infrastructure and critical minerals, over the next two days.
The event kicks off Monday evening at the Art Gallery of Ontario with a gala dinner that is closed to the public and the media.
Speaking to Canadian business leaders and politicians at a reception Sunday evening, Carney teased that a number of deals have already been signed.
“We have what the world wants: the energy, the resources, the talent, the technology and the capital,” Carney said.
“And our greatest strength is something that cannot be found on any balance sheet: trust,” he said, in an apparent jab at U.S. President Donald Trump.
On Tuesday, investors will huddle with the prime minister and other officials at the downtown Four Seasons Hotel for presentations about Canada’s investment landscape.

The summit is a key part of the prime minister’s plan for stimulating $1 trillion in investment in Canada over the next five years.
Carney said on Sunday while those in the room may not always agree, nor do they need to, they all align on where Canada is going.
“There is a new consensus from Iqaluit to Victoria to Quebec City and St. John’s. Canada is taking control of our future,” he said. “We will build more, we will trade more with each other and the world, and we will create more sustainable prosperity here at home.”
Ontario Premier Doug Ford said invitees come from Kuwait, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore, Qatar, Norway, Japan and Australia.
“This is about building relationships, opening doors and making the case that Ontario is one of the most investable places anywhere in the world,” Ford said in a statement.
He said 15 major projects in Ontario are up for offer, including energy production and transmission, critical minerals and mining, AI and advanced manufacturing.
“We are building an economy that can compete with anyone, anywhere. That’s going to be my message throughout the Canada Investment Summit,” Ford said.
“Ontario has what the world needs and we’re going to make sure the world knows it.”
While Ford and Carney pitched the summit as an opportunity for investments in Canada, civil society groups say they’re keeping company with business leaders that are exacerbating global crises.
Demonstrators, including labour unions, Indigenous leaders and climate and housing advocates, will mobilize Monday carrying a banner reading “The Many vs. The Money,” and plan “direct intervention” with attendees.
Organizers say they reject Carney’s plan to put Canada’s economic future in the hands of CEOs, and that they worry about the future of public services, pipelines and arms manufacturing.
A source with knowledge of the planned events but who is not authorized to speak publicly about them confirmed to The Canadian Press that former Conservative prime minister Stephen Harper will deliver closing remarks at the summit.
When a politician’s lips are moving, they are lying whether it’s NDP liberal or conservative our country is destroyed. Our lives have been changed forever and I know Canada is a lie, smoking mirrors, one big joke. I am truly ashamed to be a Canadian. Our medical system sucks. Actually it is horrible terrifying unaccountable corporations run everything and our government are corrupt crooks. Like I said so ashamed to be Canadian.
@Marilyn Gladu. Most immature commenter.
@ Ben. How many of those were gov’t jobs?
PP is the smartest of all Canadians.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAAHA
Mario 9is the stupidest poster here. Gee Mario, why is Harper attending again?
LOL
Harper manages Alberta’s Investment Fund. Meanwhile Carney pretends he is an expert on investing and negotiating.
Carney must be desperate to have credibility as he begged Harper to speak at his Investment summit.
Stephen Harper is showing up.
Not Poilevre the failed paper boy.
Stephen Harper is on board but not these PP bots.
They think PP is the very best PCs have to offer Canada.
Sad or what?
i
Canada is expected to have even larger job losses in September. Total incompetence by Carney. He walked away from the negotiating table showing his weakness.
@Jill Richard you conveniently left out that from May-July Canada added 181,000 jobs. Obviously, times are tough with Trumpty Dumpty in the US destabilizing the world economy. It takes time to achieve what Carney is aiming for after years of under-investment and waste from past Liberal and Conservative governments (both parties are massively guilty of this).
@Ben. PP has no responsibility on the grim job numbers in Canada in August. Nice deflection but Carney is responsible as he is PM.
@marylin gladue. Credentialism? Did you see how accomplished Arday is?
“in every disaster throughout American history, there always seems to be a man from Harvard in the middle of it.” Thomas Sowell
Feel free to criticize Sowell’s academic credentials. We all need a laugh.
Carney made this a private event with no media. He doesn’t want anyone to know he is lining the pockets of Brookfield and himself.
Did you get rid of your capital investment destroying regulations yet? No? Good luck attracting capital when just south of here EVERYTHING is more attractive
Ben. Canada lost over 40,000 jobs in August, USA gained 160,000. Carney has not even gained 200,000 net since he became PM. USA unemployment much lower than Canada, regardless of the method.
What happened to Carney”s big Wealth Fund. Another lead balloon and nothing burger.
@Anna Glukov. Canada has created more jobs per capita than the US since Carney came to power. Yet Poilievre conservatives just want to drag down Canada because they are scraping bottom in the polls.
I see the pathetic little troll has returned
Great idea by Harvard and Oxford grad Carney!
Where did PP go again?
Popsicle stand high? Nope.
PP would never think of this because PP has never even run a popsicle stand yet his bots think he’s the best Conservative in Canada.
lololololololol
@Groovey. Isn’t over 75% of Canada trade with the USA? Has Carney even displaced 5% in 18 months. Canada wealth is mainly generated being so close to the USA. If Elbows Up means poor and homeless than that is foolish choice.
Clowney promised the “best” economic in the G7. I guess he meant worst. Broken promises by Carney.
Canada does not need a deal with the US. Sure, a fair deal would be good. But if the US isn’t prepared to do a fair deal then Canada should stay away from the table. I really don’t understand these whiny chickens who are so enthusiastic about bending over the table for Trump. Their pathetic desperation to appease the fascist regime down south is embarrassment to the country. Thankfully we have a PM with more spine than that.
Anonymous the keyboard loser…change your handle to Div or Prat…more suited to who you are.
@Groovy. Overnight to you is 18 months now. Lol
Carney like meetings and conversations. Nothing has changed now in over 18 months. Canada lost over 40,000 jobs last month. Carney said in July Canada would gain jobs in August Hilarious.
Anonymous the village idiot speaks…sadly too often..
…lonely and stupid.
So tired of listening to all these losers whine that nothing has been built yet. Big things don’t happen overnight.
While investment is good, it’s only beneficial if anything actually comes of it. How many billions have been “invested” historically with very little to show? How many projects are started and then have to be halted and scrapped due to a small minority of vocal activists?
Buying debt also isn’t an investment (even though the Liberal government likes to tout it as such).
This whole thing is likely just going to be Carney and a bunch of his friends having a circle jerk while they find new ways to launder money and make themselves richer.
MAGA traitors doesn’t like Canada getting stronger and independent. They like to take in the butt from the Orange guy. Stockholm syndrome buch.
Pitching major projects for a year now
No shovels in the ground
Canada runs on polls and broken promises
All these guys ever do is talk. In the meantime Canadians are losing their jobs, companies closing, paying high prices for groceries every week, Trump keeps adding more tariffs and all Canadians get from the politicians is talk.
Please get this deal done with the US. It would be easier to be angrier about this “trade war” if the Americans didn’t have a point. They want us to stop riding their coattails and walk along side them as equals. Our response? We whine like the child who has never been told no and has never had to work. It is embarrassing to be Canadian right now.
cunada like a no arms, legs guy looking for work as a labourer
@Dennis : LOL
You backed that goof in BC.
How is that going?
Has her entire caucus quit on her?
LOL….liars like you are ignored.
PP commentors here are hilarious.
PP has never even run a lemonade stand.
Fact.
That’s why he is at 17% and still sinking.
Carney should have a laugh at PP’s bots here by calling an election.
PP can beat Kim Campbell’s record of TWO SEATS.
Clowney hung out TIFF with his pal PM. Blackface and Katy Perry..
Hes going to use your CPP to back private business investment in projects that will never return a dime
Carney worried about sovereignty with the USA, meanwhile will hand it over to the EU instead. A total fool.
Same garbage comments, different day…yawn.
Carney good with smoke and mirrors. He can’t deliver, can get it done.
August 2026
Canada lost over 40,000 jobs.
USA gained over 160,000 jobs.
Carney wants to get closer to the EU but forgets there is an ocean between us and their economies are doing very poor also.
The Four Seasons is owned by Bill Gates and a Saudi Prince. Oh Clownada what a joke you are
What the f*ck is his problem with Canada investing in Canada!? I WANT MY TAX DOLLARS TO FUND CANADIAN PROJECTS FOR MY COUNTRY’S PROSPERITY AND BENEFIT! I’m sick and tired of being led by outside money and seeing ours funneled into the f*ckin UKRAINE ETC!
Why would anyone invest in Canada when even the leader won’t?
Guess the lavish taxpayer fund Liberal party in Alberta high end resort is completed. So fly to ToronHOLE and have more lavish vacation time on taxpayers dime.
Why do Canadian taxpayers keep paying for those empty minus 24 7 staffers conference buildings in Ottawa.
Hinted deals already signed. Alberta is getting out from under his communist regime so Brookfield and co. Can’t rob them blind. More wasted ink MOUs and virtual signaling. 7 years nothing but government growth and increased carbon taxes. So much red tape it takes over a decade to get an ok to start the project while money laundering Liberals hold billions in investment. Sounds likely.
Anonymous is a village idiot
Our own PM wont even invest in Canada
That doesnt exactly send a message of confidence
After 18 months. Carney has not approved 1 project and nothing has broken ground. No deal
With the USA either.
