Edmonton police investigate serious Whyte Avenue collision involving pedestrian

Edmonton police investigate a serious collision involving a pedestrian on Whyte Avenue, Wednesday, July 7, 2021.

Edmonton police said a 59-year-old man was sent to hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition after being hit by a vehicle on Whyte Avenue Wednesday morning.

Police said the man was trying to cross Whyte Avenue, just east of 91 Street, when he was struck by a Ford F-150 travelling east at 11:15 a.m.

The man was not in a crosswalk when he was hit, according to police, who added they do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the collision.

The man was treated at the scene and taken to hospital.

The eastbound lanes of Whyte Avenue at 91 Street were closed after the crash but were reopened Wednesday afternoon.

Police are continuing to investigate the collision.
