1 man killed, another injured in York Street shooting: Ottawa police

Ottawa police have identified the victim in a shooting homicide outside the ByWard Market on Sunday night as a 20-year-old man.

Police said they were called to the 300 block of York Street at 11:54 p.m. on Sunday, where they found two men with gunshot wounds.

Both individuals were taken to hospital, where one later died. Police identified the deceased Monday as L. Ndongozi Nkuzimana, also known as Tyson Loris.

The second victim, also a 20-year-old man, is now listed in stable condition.

Investigators said Monday morning they’re looking for suspects who fled the area.

Later in the day, police also released photos of two persons of interest and asked for the public’s help in identifying the individuals.

They are also asking the community who live or work in the area bounded by Rideau, Cobourg, Murray and Nelson streets to check any surveillance footage from their homes, businesses or dashboard cameras for any suspicious activity between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. that evening.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the homicide unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5493.

The shooting death marks Ottawa’s ninth homicide of the year.

Police also said on Monday they’re looking for information about a Friday night shooting in the Sandy Hill neighbourhood. A 32-year-old man sustained serious injuries in the incident near Sweetland Avenue and Osgoode Street but is now in stable condition, according to investigators.
