EDMONTON- RCMP in Lake Louise are warning residents about an Internet scam that has occurred in the area.
A computer virus has been locking victim’s computers while they’re surfing the Internet. The virus pops up on the locked screen, stating the person has violated a section of Canadian Law. In order for the person to unlock their computer, they’re required to pay a $150 fine using a “UKASH” card.

Officer say the suspect(s) are using the RCMP logo on the screen to attempt to make it look official.

RCMP say it is not known which website or websites in particular are being targeted.
The matter is currently under investigation and has been referred to the RCMP Anti-Fraud Centre.
