Meanwhile, a second man has been charged in connection with the shooting that involved police.

The investigation began on Friday just after 7 p.m when RCMP responded to Melford, north of Tobique Narrows.

It was reported a man had pointed a firearm towards “at least one person” and “discharged the firearm in the presence of several people, including a young child.”

The suspect fled in a vehicle, heading towards Perth-Andover.

At around 8 p.m., RCMP tried to stop the suspect vehicle on Route 105 in Tobique Narrows. At that point, police were shot at and a police vehicle was struck by bullets.

The suspect vehicle was able to get away into a wooded area.

At that time, an Alert Ready message was issued in the area to warn the public that a suspect was on the loose and believed to be armed and dangerous.

On Saturday, the vehicle was found in a ditch along Route 109 in the area. A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and investigators learned there were two people in the vehicle when police were shot at.

McKenzie Moir, 21, of Bloomfield Ridge has been charged with one count of discharging a firearm with intent. He appeared via tele-remand in court on Sunday and remains in custody pending an appearance in Woodstock Provincial Court on Monday.
