Global News is projecting Peter Fonseca has been re-elected as the Liberal MP for Mississauga East—Cooksville.
The riding of Mississauga East—Cooksville is located in Ontario’s Peel Region. It includes a portion of the City of Mississauga.
Fonseca of the Liberal Party was elected as MP in 2015 with 54.2 per cent of the vote. He secured the seat again in 2019 with 53.1 per cent of the vote.
Fonseca first ran for the seat in 2011, but lost to Conservative Wladyslaw Lizon.
Immigrants make up 57 per cent of the riding’s population, with largest group of recent immigrants coming from Pakistan, the Philippines and Iran, according to the 2016 census.
