Global News is projecting Helena Jaczek has been re-elected as the Liberal MP for Markham—Stouffville.
Markham—Stouffville sits partly in the City of Markham and partly in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville in York Region. Markham—Stouffville is made up of the eastern parts of the old Oak Ridges—Markham and Markham—Unionville ridings.
The riding is home to 126,064 residents and 95,461 voters. Immigrants make up close to 42.5 per cent of this riding’s population, with Cantonese, Mandarin, and Tamil being the most common non-official languages.
The Liberal party managed to keep a hold over the riding in the 2019 election, despite incumbent Jane Philpott turning Independent.
Voters elected Jaczek to represent the riding in 2019, garnering 38.9 per cent of the vote.
Markham-Stouffville is a fairly new riding, created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution. The Liberal Party took the riding in the 2015 election.
