Canada election results: Churchill–Keewatinook Aski

The riding of Churchill–Keewatinook Aski is located in the northern portion of Manitoba, covering the top area of the province completely.

This large riding includes the town of Churchill and Gillam. It borders on the borders of Nunavut, Saskatchewan and Ontario.

The riding’s name was changed from Churchill to Churchill–Keewatinook Aski in 2012.

NDP MP Niki Ashton has held the seat since 2008. She first ran in 2006, but was defeated by Liberal Tina Keeper, coming in second place. Ashton ran again in 2008, winning with 47.46 per cent of the vote. In the most recent election, she won with 50 per cent of the vote.

About 25 per cent of the population speaks an Aboriginal language, with Algonquian languages and Cree-Montagnais languages being the most common. The Churchill–Keewatinook Aski riding has a large Aboriginal population of 76 per cent.
