Police and paramedics were called to a highrise apartment building at the corner of Caroline and George streets shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday.

Hamilton paramedic superintendent David Thompson said they transported three people – a man in his 50s, a woman in her 40s, and a man in his 30s – to a local trauma centre in critical, life-threatening condition.

According to media relations Constable Indy Bharaj, the incident happened inside one of the units, although he didn’t disclose which floor it was on.

“We can tell you that three individuals have been taken to hospital in critical condition,” said Bharaj. “This was a contained incident and all parties have been accounted for at this time.”

Bharaj confirmed that one of the people taken to hospital is in custody but could not disclose what possible charges that person is facing.
