Nominations sought for Peterborough and District Pathway of Fame

The Peterborough and District Pathway of Fame is seeking nominations for inductees into the Pathway.

The Pathway of Fame at Del Crary Park recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the community. Special commemorative plaques are placed along the paths at the park for all inductees.

Categories for 2021 inductees include visual arts, literary, dramatic arts, entertainment/musical, cultural betterment, community Samaritan, media and community builder.

“The Pathway facilitating committee does not put forward nominations, nor does the Pathway have any influence as to who goes in,” said Gord Gibb, the committee’s communications chairperson.

Gibb says a “diverse” committee of community citizens, who remain anonymous, are assembled to consider the submitted nominations and recommend inductees.

The Pathway Facilitating Committee, historically, follows the recommendation of the community selection committee.

Gibb noted nominations were down in 2020 presumably due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“While we were unable to conduct our normal induction ceremony last year, inductees for 2020 were duly announced and their names engraved onto stone markers along the Pathway Walk at Del Crary Park,” he said. “Regardless of our capability to conduct a ceremony safely this year, inductions will nonetheless take place.”

A one-page nomination form can be downloaded at the Path of Fame’s website. Each nomination must be accompanied by a $10 nomination fee payable to The Peterborough Pathway of Fame.

“The Pathway believes that the path to a diverse, and inclusive crop of inductees lay with a healthy number of nominations — so the more, the better,” Gibb said.

Nominations close April 30.
