Police alleged a man entered the George Street facility at around 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday armed with a knife and went on to stab four people.

In a statement, the Ottawa Paramedics Service said crews reports people sustained “traumatic injuries.”

The statement said a 30-year-old man was taken to a hospital in critical condition after being stabbed in his chest and arm.

A 59-year-old man and a 60-year-old man were listed in serious condition after suffering abdomen injuries. Paramedics also said a 47-year-old old woman was stabbed in her back, but she was stabilized at the hospital.

Police said Thursday morning that all four victims are expected to survive and that both staff and residents were injured.

Glenn van Gulik, a spokesperson with The Salvation Army, said in a statement Thursday morning that residents were asked to stay in their rooms when the incident first occurred before police secured the main floor of the building as they gathered evidence.

Investigators said 33-year-old David Breau was charged with four counts of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, two counts of breach of probation, failure to comply with a release order and possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence.

The accused was set to appear in an Ottawa court on Thursday.
