B.C.’s police watchdog has confirmed it is investigating a high-speed crash that sent multiple people to hospital on Sunday morning.
The Independent Investigations Office of BC said an officer tried to stop a grey Dodge Charger that was allegedly speeding on Highway 1 eastbound near Government Street.
The Charger did not stop and exited the highway at Brunette Avenue where it collided with another vehicle, the IIO said.
The IIO confirmed a family with children was in the second vehicle.
The lone occupant of the Charger and all five people inside the second vehicle were transported to hospital.
The IIO investigates police-related incidents involving death or serious harm.
Sunday’s crash comes after two collisions on Boxing Day. A woman died after she was struck by a vehicle in Richmond late Saturday afternoon and a collision in Langley between two vehicles on Boxing Day afternoon has sent two people to hospital.
