HALIFAX – The Nova Scotia government is spending $1.5 million a year to help spruce-up streets across the province as part of a new program.
The Communities, Culture and Heritage Department says it will provide grants of up to $1,000 to help community groups and municipalities beautify their main streets.

The government says applications will be available this winter and grants will be approved in the spring.
It says the program is part of the province’s tourism strategy that aims at improving the attractiveness of downtown areas.
