2 people taken to hospital after helicopter crash near New Tecumseth, Ont.: police

Ontario Provincial Police say two people were taken to hospital after a helicopter crash near New Tecumseth, Ont., on Saturday.

OPP said that the crash happened on a private airstrip in the area of Concession Road 7 and County Road 1.

“Investigation reveals the aircraft was in the process of landing and was approximately 20 feet above the ground when the mishap occurred,” police said in a news release on Sunday.

“The reason for the sudden drop in altitude is undetermined at this point.”

Police said four people were onboard, two of whom were taken to hospital. Both were later released with no reported injuries, police said.

Transportation Safety Board spokesperson Chris Krepski said that the TSB won’t be attending the scene but will be in contact with police for the investigation.
