Edmonton – The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is asking Edmontonians to “Tattoo your Equipment.”

The EPS is telling owners to mark their heavy equipment with a removal-resistant ink, which, police believe, will reduce the chances of the equipment being stolen. Police say, if the equipment is stolen, it will increase the chances for police to find it.

Police say hundreds of pieces of heavy equipment are stolen in Edmonton every year because it’s expensive, in demand, and easy to steal.

“Edmonton is part of a pipeline of stolen heavy equipment which is being moved around the province. The thefts are generally committed from unfenced compounds that have no security lights, no video cameras and the equipment itself is very generic looking,” explains Acting Sargent. Trevor Henderson. “While we encourage owners of heavy equipment to take proper anti-theft measures, there is something that they can do right away.”
