A 34-year-old Napanee man whose body was found in a local river Monday afternoon was suffering from a seizure before he ended up in the water, a local fire official says.
Bill Hammond, deputy fire chief for Greater Napanee, said fire crews along with other officials were called to 161 Hillside Ave. around 5:30 a.m. Monday morning to respond to a man in medical distress.
Kyle Boomhour of Napanee was reportedly having a seizure when he ran from his apartment in the building, down Hillside Avenue towards the Napanee River.
Boomhour was with his girlfriend when he ran from the apartment building, according to Hammond. Neighbours told Global News the girlfriend visited at least two other residences looking for help after Boomhour left their apartment.
Neighbours told Hammond and Global News that at one point, Boomhour could be seen falling into the river and trying to swim across.
OPP, Napanee and Loyalist firefighters all searched the river over Monday and eventually found the Boomhour’s body around 1 p.m.
Hammond said a “tragic” set of circumstances led to Boomhour’s death.
The coroner is currently investigating the cause of death.
