TORONTO — Four of the world’s five most powerful celebrities are women, according to Forbes magazine, which just unveiled its 2013 Celebrity 100 list.
The list is compiled by measuring fame. “Yes, we factor in celebrity earnings over the last 12 months, but we also tally how often each celebrity is mentioned in print and TV,” explains Forbes writer Dorothy Pomerantz, “and gauge the strength of their Internet presence and how they’re viewed by a critical constituency: American consumers.”

Oprah Winfrey remains in the top spot, followed by pop star Lady Gaga, director Steven Spielberg and singers Beyonce and Madonna.
Female celebrities made up a third of the overall list.
The lone Canadian on the list is Ontario-born Justin Bieber — at No. 9 — and he’s singled out for having the most social networking power of any of the other stars on the list. His marketability ranking, though, is one of the lowest on the list — one spot under Donald Trump, who appears in the No. 30 spot.
According to Forbes, Bieber has earned an estimated $58 million since last June.
The Top 10 also includes musicians Taylor Swift and Bon Jovi, tennis star Roger Federer and TV talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.
Among the many sports celebs on the Forbes list are golfer Tiger Woods (No. 15), basketball star LeBron James (No. 16) and soccer star David Beckham (No. 19).
