An Italian researcher claims he has found a surprisingly simple cure for multiple sclerosis, fuelling the hopes of many Canadians.
Dr. Paolo Zamboni says that MS is caused by clogged veins, a condition he calls "chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency" (CCSVI). The angioplasty-type procedure he performed on his wife unclogged the arteries in her neck and her symptoms disappeared. Zamboni performed the same surgery on 65 more patients and 73 percent of them had no symptoms for two years.
Many scientists are still skeptical about the treatment, but Canada’s MS Society is behind it, bringing hope to many Canadians suffering from the disease.
