Man dead following collision between car, transit bus in Whitby: Durham police

Durham Regional Police say a man is dead after a crash involving a car and a transit bus in Whitby Friday evening.

Police said they were called to the area of South Blair Street and Victoria Street East at 6:55 p.m.

The driver of the car, a 28-year-old man from Oshawa, was killed in the crash, police said.

Officers said there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the crash and the bus driver was not seriously injured.

Roads were closed in the area for the investigation.

In an update posted to Twitter later Friday evening, Ontario Provincial Police said it’s believed the same vehicle that collided with the bus was involved in several fail-to-remain crashes on Highway 401 just before the fatal crash. No serious injuries were reported in the collisions on the highway.
