Heating and cooling systems in the homes will no longer be powered by electricity.
The province says 32 members of the two communities have been trained to do the work.
Manitoba Hydro says the First Nations will repay the costs of conversion with savings from their monthly utility bills.
Those savings are expected to be $90 a month per home.
