Co-Operators Centre thanks governments for support

The final touches are in place on the Co-Operators Centre Multi-Purpose Facility.

On Friday a plaque was unveiled to recognize the financial support of the Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments to the completed project. The total cost was $60 million, which was split between the three levels of government.

Construction began in fall 2007 on the facility which includes six ice surfaces. It opened on a limited basis in December 2009 in order to give international teams practice time for the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship. The facility officially opened March 15, 2010.

The Co-Operators Centre is part of a revitalization plan for Evraz Place.

Over 12,000 hours of ice time will be provided to community sport and recreation each year. So far the facility has hosted the ESSO Cup National Female Hockey Championship, and will soon hold the Western Canada Farm Progress Show and Canadian Western Agribition.
