2 men seriously injured after house explosion near Uxbridge, police say

Durham Regional Police say an explosion that took place at an Uxbridge house Tuesday night happened while a furnace technician was working on a newly fitted furnace. Officials say that 2 men were injured in the explosion. Frazier Snowdon has more. – Oct 9, 2019

Durham Regional Police say two men have been seriously injured after a house explosion in Zephyr, northwest of Uxbridge.

A police spokesperson told Global News emergency crews were called to the area of Dafoe Street and Zephyr Road, near Concession 3 Road, just before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police said there was information the explosion might be related to a furnace issue, but investigators weren’t able to definitively confirm the cause as of Tuesday evening.

The Minstry of Labour told Global News on Wednesday morning they were notified of an explosion in Uxbridge and that “a worker sustained injuries when they were turning on the propane on a newly fitted furnace when there was an explosion.”

The Ministry added an inspector has been assigned to investigate.

A spokesperson for Ornge air ambulance told Global News a crew from Toronto was sent to transport a patient to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Police said as of Wednesday morning, the two men remain in hospital in life-threatening condition.
