SASKATOON – Local police have released the results from its spring edition of Operation Streetsweep which aims to reduce the collision rate in Saskatoon.

From Tuesday to Friday, police inspected 389 vehicles and 957 vehicle equipment violations were identified.

Thirteen vehicles and trailers were towed as a result of safety violations.

The operation looked at the condition of lighting, brakes, steering components, tires, glass and any other equipment failures that may deem the vehicle not roadworthy.

Police also issued 301 tickets for speeding and improper cellphone and seat belt usage.

During 2012’s spring edition of Operation Streetsweep, a total of 413 were checked and 1,155 vehicular equipment violations were identified.
