Operation Streetsweep keeps roads clean of unsafe vehicles

Saskatoon police completed Operation Streetsweep on Friday with a total of 413 vehicles inspected and 1,155 vehicular equipment violations identified.

Based on the degree of a violation, motorists were either given a timeframe to repair their vehicle or it was towed for major safety infractions.

Twenty-four vehicles were deemed not roadworthy and were towed.

This year’s operation also included an enhanced focus on school zones, high-collision intersections, as well as seat belt and handheld device use.

A total of 233 traffic tickets were issued by police.

The annual operation looked for the condition of lights, brakes, steering components, tires, glass and equipment failures that could cause the vehicle to be unsafe.
