Palmerston, Ont., man charged in 2nd sexual assault investigation this year

Wellington County OPP say a 33-year-old Palmerston, Ont., man has been charged with sexual assault for the second time this year.

Police said that on July 17, officers received a report of a sexual assault that happened at a home in the small southwestern Ontario community back in June.

Evan Brumwell was arrested on Aug. 1 and charged with sexual assault.

An OPP spokesperson confirmed to Global News on Tuesday that Brumwell was also arrested in February in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a minor.

Police said that incident happened at an address in Palmerston but did not say when it took place.

Brumwell was charged with sexual assault on a person under 16 years old in that investigation. The age of the victim was not provided.

The OPP said that although Brumwell has been released from custody, he is under strict conditions, and police do not believe there is a threat to public safety.

Brumwell will make a court appearance on Sept. 3.

Palmerston is a community 60 kilometres northwest of Guelph in the town of Minto.
