Mission Creek flood threat over for now

Travis Lowe/Global Okanagan

KELOWNA, BC – The threat of flooding has eased but officials are warning residents living along local creeks not to let their guard down.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan says the flood watch issued last weekend has ended.

There were fears Mission Creek could burst its banks as temperatures climbed, but officials say cooler temperatures and moderate rainfall have resulted in lower flows.

But officials warn the threat of flooding can return.

“Until the spring snowmelt and runoff is complete, the Regional District of Central Okanagan Emergency Program continues to encourage all property owners adjacent to and in low lying areas of Mission Creek to take appropriate measure to protect their property and to make an emergency plan in the event any possible flooding occurs due to weather conditions,” says Bruce Smith, RDCO Communications Officer.
