EDMONTON – A special council meeting has been set for 1:30 Wednesday afternoon to discuss the downtown arena.
On Tueday, Mayor Stephen Mandel indicated he was optimistic.
“It’s been a long grind but hopefully – we’re optimistic about tomorrow, so we’ll see what happens,” he said.
City Councillors Don Iveson and Tony Caterina told Global News they’re waiting on the details of the meeting, along with the public.
“I’m guessing if he thinks there’s a reason to call a meeting – and it’s the mayor’s role to call the meeting – that he’s got something to present to us, so we’ll see what it is and maybe make some decisions accordingly.”

Last Wednesday, city council voted to refer the downtown arena project back to city administration to suggest solutions for the missing $55 million.
Council voted to re-examine the arena project and the possible solutions “as soon as possible.”
“I guess you can anticipate that this is the as soon as possible, that something will be put forward, what that something is, we don’t know,” said Caterina.
