Police seek witness in violent robbery cold case

TORONTO – Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a witness who was at the scene of an unsolved violent robbery in 2009.

It is reported that two masked men, one armed with a handgun and another with a baseball bat, entered the Swap $hop at 1448 Lawrence Avenue East on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 8:30 p.m.

During the robbery attempt, a male employee confronted one of suspects, a struggle ensued and was shot resulting in severe internal injuries to his intestine and spine.

Authorities on Thursday released an image of a woman believed to be in her mid-20s shopping prior to the robbery and leaving swiftly after the incident.

“She was in the store making purchases prior to the robbery,” said staff inspector Mike Earl of the Hold Up Squad. “I believe there are good leads and with this lady we can move this case forward.”

Police have also released security footage of the robbery.

Police described the two suspects as black, one with corn rows and another with braided hair, between 5’5” and 5’10” in height.
