RCMP say one person is dead after a serious crash on the Coquihalla Highway near Kamloops Friday afternoon.
The crash happened around 2:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes near the interchange with Highway 1, police confirmed.
Kamloops RCMP say they were called to the scene around 4 p.m., where the lone driver of a Toyota Prius was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Prius collided head-on with a Toyota Sienna, whose lone driver was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries, police and BC Emergency Health Services confirmed.
Both northbound lanes into the city are closed, while southbound traffic is down to just one lane. Police say a single northbound lane is set to open “shortly.”
DriveBC said a detour is available to passenger vehicles via Lac Le Jeune Road.
Commercial vehicles can detour via Highway 5A south.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
