Winnipeg Police have made two arrests in connection to several robberies over the past couple of months.

The first happened in February on McAdam Avenue in the Seven Oaks area of Winnipeg. Several suspects forced a man to drive to a bank ATM and withdraw cash which they then robbed him of. The victim was released unharmed and the suspects fled in the stolen vehicle.

Last month, near Portage Avenue and Young Street, several suspects got into a man’s parked vehicle and tried to rob him. The suspects entered the victim’s vehicle but a confrontation ensued and the victim accelerated away with one of the suspects still inside the vehicle. Police said the suspect in the vehicle tried to grab the steering wheel causing a minor collision. The suspect then fled the area on foot.

Also in March, a female victim agreed to meet with someone she met on-line  hoping to buy a smartphone from the person. The suspects met the victim on Flora Avenue and confronted then robbed her of cash while she was in her vehicle with her two children. Police said some of the instances involved a weapon.

“The weapons that were used in this case, my understanding is a knife on one occasion, there might have been a pipe used on another occasion,” said Const. Jason Michalyshen with the Winnipeg Police Service. “But certainly, the victims in these cases were confronted in similar fashion. The victims were in the area, these individuals made contact with them, threatened them, threatened to harm them, demanded property.”

Police have arrested and charged 25-year-old Derrick Duff and 19-year-old Dalton Roussin in connection to the robberies and said more arrests are pending.
