Chiefs down Contacts 5-1 to move into Telus Cup final

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – Chris Gerrie had two goals and two assists Saturday as the Red Deer Chiefs defeated the Saskatoon Contacts 5-1 to advance to the final of the Telus Cup.

Red Deer will take on the winner of the other semifinal between the Ottawa Jr. 67’s and the Rousseau Royal de Laval-Montreal in Sunday’s final at Canada’s national midget hockey championship.

Chase Thudium and Colton Bobyk each added a goal and an assist for Red Deer, while Jacob Schofield also scored.

Matt Zentner made 23 saves to get the win.

Terrell Draude had the only goal for Saskatoon, which got 19 stops from Rylan Parenteau.

Gerrie opened the scoring at 15:30 of the first period, before Thudium made it 2-0 at 4:25 of the second.
