Spring finally hits Winnipeg

Some areas across Canada enjoyed warmer-than-normal temperatures this past weekend, whereas others experienced colder-than-normal temperatures. Global News

It finally feels like spring and it took long enough. It’s been 120 years since Mother Nature waited until this late in April to give us some double digit temperatures.

It has Winnipeggers coming out of hibernation.

Patios all over the city were packed during lunch on Friday.

“Let the summer begin,” said George Tsouras, the owner of Beachcomber at the Forks. “This is our first official day of opening (the patio) and people are not afraid to sit outside.”

It hasn’t been in the double digits in Winnipeg since October 17th of last year.

The cleanup is well underway at Assiniboine Park, so is the planting.

Pansies now fill flower pots outside of the Pavilion.

“When we saw the forecast we had to put out some sense of spring in the garden,” said Maurice Larson, the outdoor horticulture supervisor at Assiniboine Park.

Larson told Global News planting flower beds will still be delayed a few more weeks.
