Dramatic video shows plane at Markham’s Buttonville Airport crashing, narrowly missing truck

Newly-released video shows how a small airplane that crashed just outside of Markham’s Buttonville Airport earlier this week came within feet of striking a truck.

The nine-second dashcam video was captured by Bill Chan inside his vehicle. The video appears to show Chan driving westbound along 16th Avenue when a small white plane suddenly passes in front of his truck, its wing hitting the pavement. A piece of debris can also be seen rolling across the road.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the airport, which is located southeast of Highway 404 and 16th Avenue, Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Markham Fire said paramedics treated two people at the scene.

Police told Global News a flight instructor and a trainee were on board the airplane at the time and sustained minor injuries.

A Buttonville Airport spokesperson declined to discuss the incident when contacted by Global News.

Transportation Safety Board of Canada officials were called in and the agency has taken over the investigation.
