Saskatoon Blades win streak hits 7 games

The Saskatoon Blades extended their winning streak to seven games as they beat the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-3 on Sunday in Western Hockey League (WHL) action.

It was a character win for the Blades (44-14-8-0), as they came back twice from two-goal deficits to down the Warriors (37-20-6-2), who they will meet in the first round of the playoffs.

Max Gerlach and Gary Haden each scored two goals and added an assist to lead Saskatoon.

Dawson Davidson, with his third goal in as many games, rounded out the scoring for the Blades.

Nolan Maier made 21 saves to pick up his 35th win of the season.

Moose Jaw’s Tristin Langan scored twice, including his 50th goal of the season, in a losing cause.

Daemon Hunt had the other goal for the Warriors.

Brodan Salmond stopped 36 of 40 shots before being replaced 5:24 into the third period. Adam Evanoff stopped all nine shots he faced in relief.

The Blades have the best record in the WHL since Dec. 1, 2018, going 27-5-4-0, and are 15-1-1-0 since the beginning of February.

Saskatoon wraps up the regular season with a home-and-home series against the best team in the WHL, the Prince Albert Raiders.

The teams meet Friday evening in Saskatoon before heading to Prince Albert for a Saturday evening game.
