Charges pending against driver of school bus that hit 2 teens in west Edmonton

Charges are pending against the 44-year-old driver of a school bus after two teenage pedestrians were hit by the vehicle in west Edmonton, police said Friday night.

A teenage girl suffered life-threatening injuries when she and another teenage girl were struck by the bus on Friday afternoon, AHS said.

According to AHS, paramedics were called to the scene at 3:49 p.m. A health official said both teens were taken to hospital and that the second victim was in stable condition.

Police said both girls are 13 years old.

“The 44-year-old male driver of the bus and its passengers were not injured,” police said. “The EPS Major Collision Investigations Section has since taken over the investigation.”

Police shut down Hemingway Road between 201 and 205 streets late Friday afternoon in order to investigate the collision. Shortly after 8 p.m., the road had been reopened.

The crash happened near Bessie Nichols School. Drivers were being asked to avoid the area while police investigated the cause of the collision.
