The province will be spending $750,000 over the next three years to deliver LGBTQ2+ programs for young people.

Nova Scotia is teaming up with the Youth Project, an organization that supports youth around issues of sexual orientation and gender identity.

The Youth Project will be delivering programs, training and workshops for youth, teachers and staff.

“Every student should feel safe, valued and welcomed at school,” said Zach Churchill, Education and Early Childhood Development Minister, in a news release.

Churchill said Youth Project has been providing excellent support to LGBTQ2+ students for a number of years. “This funding will help them expand those positive and inclusive experiences to more LGBTQ2+ students in more schools across the province, particularly in rural areas.”

Kate Shewan, the executive director of the Youth Project, says the group’s work aims to spark conversation, reduce stigma and normalize differences while “also ensuring LGBTQ2+ students are validated and see themselves reflected within the school environment and curriculum.”
