Guelph police say officers seized over $28,000 worth of drugs from a north-end motel on Friday.

Officers were dealing with an incident when the narcotics were noticed, leading to the arrest of a 22-year-old Toronto man and a 17-year-old Guelph girl.

After getting a search warrant for the man’s hotel room and vehicle, police said they found a stockpile of drugs.

“This was just a regular call for service by police. They had no idea what they were getting into when they went there,” said Const. Mike Gatto.

Police seized over $5,700 of cocaine, over $3,600 of MDMA, $2,600 of Xanax pills, $2,500 of fentanyl, over $13,000 of mushrooms and about $800 of marijuana.

Officers also found drug paraphernalia, over $6,600 in cash, an imitation handgun and a switchblade.

Gatto said finding fentanyl is a big concern, but a small victory for police because even a small amount could be fatal.

“In a small hotel room we have multiple types of drugs, including fentanyl. So all of those drugs that were there potentially could have been cross-contaminated,” he said.

The two suspects are facing a long list of trafficking-related charges. Police are still after a 16-year-old Guelph girl who is facing the same charges.
