A Whitby father is facing multiple impaired-driving charges after being stopped by police twice in two days — with one incident allegedly happening while his children were in the vehicle.

According to Durham Regional Police, the man, who is in his 40s, was first apprehended by officers on Feb. 20 around 7:30 p.m.

They allege he was driving his pickup truck while impaired and with his three children, aged nine to 14, inside.

He was arrested and charged with two impaired-driving offences, after blowing over three times the legal limit, police said.

He was released from custody on a promise to appear.

Just 19 hours later, police say the same man was allegedly stopped by officers near Mary and Euclid streets driving a different vehicle.

This time, his breath test registered over 3.5 times the legal limit, according to police.

He was arrested and charged with impaired driving — over 80 milligrams — and one count of driving while under suspension, police confirmed.

Police say the man, whose name they are withholding to protect the identity of his children, is being held in custody ahead of a bail hearing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
