1 dead, 3 injured after fatal crash in Yarmouth County

A young woman is dead and three people have been injured after a collision between a car and a tractor-trailer in Yarmouth County on Monday.

RCMP say that the crash occurred at approximately 4:31 p.m., when a car travelling east on Highway 101 near Exit 34 in Hebron crossed the centreline and struck a parked tractor-trailer on the westbound side of the highway.

The Mounties say a 20-year-old woman who was in the rear seat died at the scene while a 19-year-old woman who was also in the rear seat sustained life-threatening injuries.

The 19-year-old was eventually transported to Halifax via LifeFlight helicopter.

A 29-year-old man who was the driver of the vehicle and the 21-year-old male front seat-passenger were injured and were transported to Yarmouth Regional Hospital for treatment of what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not in the truck at the time and was not injured.

Highway 101 was closed for several hours — reopening at 12:15 a.m. — as an RCMP collision analyst was called to examine the scene.

The Mounties say no further information is being released about the crash pending notification of next of kin.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
