Extreme cold warning

An extreme cold warning remains in effect for Saskatoon for wind chills -40 or colder continuing off and on for the next couple of days as an arctic high-pressure ridge slowly builds over southern Saskatchewan.

Wednesday night and Thursday morning regions east of Prince Albert as well as near the Manitoba border should not be quite as cold as western regions due to more cloud cover.

Be sure to bundle up as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin.

-42 is what it felt like Wednesday morning in Saskatoon with wind chill as temperatures dove back to -33 degrees to start the day.

Partly cloudy skies stuck around for the first half of the day as the mercury climbed up to -30 degrees heading into the noon hour.

Sunshine gets back into full swing during the afternoon as conditions continue to warm into the mid -20s for an afternoon high.

Wednesday night

An arctic high-pressure system building in keeps skies clear Wednesday night as temperatures plunge down to around -34 degrees.

Valentine’s Day Thursday

-46 is around what it’ll feel like Valentine’s Day morning with wind chill, meaning skin can freeze in minutes, so be sure to bundle right up as you’re heading out in the morning.

Then work week will finish on a sunny note Friday morning as temperatures dive back into the -30s with wind chills in the -40s one more time.

During the day a wedge of cloud cover is expected to slide in, helping boost the city’s afternoon high to around -20 degrees late in the day.

Family Day long weekend outlook

Clouds stick around on Saturday with a slight chance of flurries, then a better risk of snow slides in on Sunday before skies start to clear for Family Day Monday.

Daytime highs should manage to slip into the minus teens all weekend long with overnight lows in the mid -20s and morning wind chills ducking back into the mid -30s at times.
