More Hamilton cannabis dispensaries shutting down voluntarily: police

It appears many marijuana Hamilton dispensaries are starting to shut down voluntarily.

Hamilton police have been shutting down several cannabis dispensaries in the city. New powers came into effect Jan. 1, allowing officers to change the locks, put an alarm on the premises and use other security techniques to ensure the businesses stay closed.

The Cannabis Canada dispensary in Hess Village has removed its signs and closed its doors, along with its location on Main Street.

The phone numbers are also out of service.

In an email to 900 CHML, Hamilton Police Const. Jerome Stewart says police did not execute search warrants at those locations, so they must have closed on their own.

“With respect to other dispensaries, we are aware of other closures,” he said. “However, this is a fluid situation and some have reopened (sometimes temporarily) at another address. We will continue to monitor the situation and enforce the Cannabis Act.”
