Freezing rain causes closures and cancellations in Guelph

With Mother Nature wreaking havoc over southwestern Ontario Wednesday, many closures and cancellations popped up around Guelph.

Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning on Tuesday for Guelph and Wellington County which could last right through until Thursday morning.

By Wednesday morning all schools in the Upper Grand District School Board and Wellington Catholic District School Board were closed. Evening rentals and permits were cancelled as well.

The University of Guelph campus was also closed for the day, including the childcare and learning centre and the university’s pool.

The City of Guelph said waste collection and bus service may be delayed.

Hospice Wellington cancelled all community client programs, including palliative day away and grief support groups.

Many day cares and after school programs were also closed on Wednesday.
