With more snow expected in Peterborough, so comes snow-clearing frustration. The City of Peterborough has some suggestions for shovellers.

Peterborough Public Works supervisor John Czerniawski says it’s important to vary your snow-storing locations, especially after significant snowfalls.

“Don’t create lines-of-sight issues for yourself, and try and be proactive where you pile your snow,” he said.

Fred Levitt, who came to Peterborough from out of town to help clear a family member’s driveway of all the weekend snow, says his snowblower helps keep banks at bay.

“It keeps them lower yes, it gives you a better siteline moving in and out of your laneway,” said Levitt.

Residents are warned to not pile snow on any city roads because that can carry a fine, according to the city’s snow removal bylaw. If residents are running out of places to put snow, the city can come to take a look.

“We’ll come and investigate it,” said Czerniawski. “[We will] have a look and once a resource is available we’ll try and address them as needed.”

Levitt suggests if the snow gets out of hand, call an expert for help.

“If you don’t have a snowblower, maybe hire somebody that will do it,” he said. “There are people with snowblowers that will do it for money.”

During a snowstorm, when snow-clearing operations are underway in the city of Peterborough, parking or stopping a vehicle for any length of time on a city street carries an $80 fine and the vehicle may be towed.
